Justin Cartwright is a South African born author of international acclaim. After studying at Oxford he went on to write many award winning novels, the most recent of which include: Half in Love (2001), White Lightning (2002), The Promise of Happiness (2005), The Song Before it is Sung (2007) and To Heaven by Water Bloomsbury (2009). We were fortunate enough to host Justin and his lovely wife Penny at Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve.
When Justin was a child, doctors prescribed some clean dry Karoo air to help heal his mother’s lung ailment. And so Justin, together with his brother, spent part of his childhood living in the small town of Craddock. His trip back to these great open plains, many years later, was a personal journey of rediscovery and he was moved to write about his experiences of travelling through this part of the land and coming to rest at Mount Camdeboo. He sent his musings to BA Highlife who found them to be just what they were looking for. The result: we appear in glowing terms in their May 2010 issue.
