Access - Getting to Mount Camdeboo

Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve lies just to the east of Graaff-Reinet, in the heart of the malaria-free Eastern Cape's Great Karoo. Guests can either be collected by Mount Camdeboo’s recommended transfer company from Graaff-Reinet's Airstrip (closest airstrip) or Port Elizabeth Airport (closest national airport), or self-drive to the reserve.

A mere 280 km (approximately 3 hours) travel by road from the closest national airport in Port Elizabeth, car hire is available from the airport; roads are in fair condition and standard vehicles are sufficient.
Plett Air Safaris also offers daily scheduled flights (excluding Mondays) from Plettenberg Bay airport to Graaff-Reinet’s airstrip, followed by a 60-minute road transfer to the reserve.

FLIGHTS FROM PLETTENBERG BAY (PB):
Daily scheduled flights (excl Mondays) from Plettenberg Bay airport to Graaff-Reinet’s airstrip are available - below rates are per person, min 2 pax, all-inclusive one way (book online or contact us for assistance):

  • Aircraft is a twin engine 8-seater (7 passenger) Cessna 402C or twin engine Jet Cessna Citation Jet 8-seater (6 passengers);
  • For parties larger than 7 pax, an additional aircraft can be arranged based on the same cost structure as above;
  • A single transfer of x1 person is charged x2 seats;
  • Luggage is restricted to 20kg pp in soft travel bags;
  • Additional luggage can be stored free of charge at Plettenberg Bay airport;
  • All arrangements are subject to availability.

ROAD TRANSFERS FROM PORT ELIZABETH AIRPORT:

A 280 km trip (approximately 3 hours) by road from the closest national airport in Port Elizabeth, with daily flights from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Guests can either be collected by Mount Camdeboo’s recommended transfer company from Port Elizabeth Airport or self-drive to the reserve (car hire is available from the airport; roads are in fair condition and standard vehicles are sufficient). Alternatively, road transfers are arranged by an outsourced service provider. Vehicles are air-conditioned. Prices below are quoted per vehicle and are subject to change. 


SELF-DRIVE DIRECTIONS:

From Port Elizabeth International Airport:

  • Exit airport and turn right at the traffic circle into M11 Allister Miller Road.
  • Travel 2km and at the traffic lights turn left into Forest Hill Drive.
  • Travel 700 meters and at the traffic lights turn right into M7 Walmer Boulevard.
  • Travel 500m and at the 3rd set of traffic lights turn left onto M4 Settler's Way.
  • Travel ± 6km and exit left on 751A, keep right and exit right onto N2 Cape Town.
  • Travel ± 1.5km and exit left on 748 off-ramp to R75 Commercial/Uitenhage Road.
  • Travel 350m and turn right at the 2nd set of traffic lights onto R75 Uitenhage Road.
  • Travel 14km and exit left onto R75 Uitenhage and follow R75 Graaff-Reinet Road.
  • Travel 209km on R75 and turn right onto the R63 Pearston/Somerset East Road.
  • Travel 209km on R75 and turn right onto the R63 Pearston/Somerset East Road.
  • Travel 7km and turn left onto Petersburg Road (unpaved dirt road).
  • Once you have turned onto the Petersburg gravel road, drive for approximately 27 km. Cell phone reception ends after 3 km along this gravel road. Keep driving through the Samara gates i.e. one single and two double sets of electronic gates with push buttons until you reach the Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve main automatic electronic double set of gates.
  • Continue through the double gate and follow the signs to the Mount Camdeboo “Reception”.

From Graaff-Reinet:

  • As you leave Graaff-Reinet take the R63 / R75 to Port Elizabeth / Somerset East for approx. 26 km.
  • Turn left on to the R63 Pearston / Somerset-East Road (Blue Crane Route).
  • Travel approximately 7 km to the Mount Camdeboo Sign on the R63 Pearston / Somerset-East road.
  • Turn left on to Petersburg gravel road.
  • Once you have turned onto the Petersburg gravel road, drive for approximately 27 km. Cell phone reception ends after 3 km along this gravel road. Keep driving through the Samara gates i.e. one single and two double sets of electronic gates with push buttons until you reach the Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve main automatic electronic double set of gates.
  • Continue through the double gate and follow the signs to the Mount Camdeboo “Reception”.
